Spitfire Mark Ia Lounge Chair and foot rest

Part of a limited edition of ten, the Spitfire Lounge Chair Series takes its cue from the engineering elegance of the Supermarine Spitfire. This example, the Mk. Ia, Chair No. 3, references the aircraft that defended Britain during the Battle of Britain with its restrained black finish echoing the distinctive black and white undersides used for ground identification.

Handcrafted in England from ebonised and inked English oak with a contrasting English sweet chestnut backrest and natural paper-cord seat, the chair celebrates both material integrity and process. The timber is traditionally ebonised through a tannin reaction before being deepened with Indian ink and finished in a natural wax oil, allowing the surface to develop a rich patina over time. Its refined silhouette sits comfortably between functional furniture and collectible design, a limited piece that honours craftsmanship, history and the integrity of its materials.
