Job title: Gallery Assistant
Location: Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham
Working pattern: Part-time job share (2–3 days per week), 10.30am–5.30pm, Thursday–Wednesday rota, including alternate Saturdays
Closing date: 30 December 2025

Are you organised, friendly, and passionate about design and British craftsmanship? Do you enjoy meeting people, supporting makers, and contributing to the smooth running of a creative space?

We’re looking for a Gallery Assistant to join our small team in a part-time job share role. This position is ideal for someone looking to supplement their existing work, such as a creative or someone running their own small business, who can offer flexibility and enjoys working both independently and as part of a close-knit team.

You’ll be joining a creative environment in the heart of Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter, where we curate a carefully chosen selection of contemporary British jewellery, design-led furniture and handcrafted homeware made by some of Britain’s best makers.

About the role

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the day-to-day running of the gallery. From welcoming visitors and handling jewellery to liaising with designer-makers and assisting with simple social media content, you’ll be involved in many aspects of gallery life.

Because our team is very small, you’ll often be working independently, so being highly organised, reliable, and confident managing your own workload is essential. Clear record-keeping and good communication are key as responsibilities are shared with another colleague in a job-share arrangement.

The working pattern may vary slightly from week to week so the role requires someone who is flexible, adaptable, and able to respond to the needs of the gallery while maintaining consistency and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Opening and closing the gallery (including handling and displaying precious jewellery)
  • Welcoming visitors and providing good customer service (face-to-face, email, and phone)
  • Creating and scheduling simple, engaging social media posts
  • Keeping the gallery’s website up to date with accurate product information
  • Liaising with designer-makers and maintaining product records
  • Supporting day-to-day admin and keeping the gallery tidy
  • Booking and promoting workshops and meeting room hire
  • Creating content for occasional newsletters
  • Managing jewellery and furniture inventory, including logging new pieces and ensuring labels are accurate

What we’re looking for

  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • An interest in and appreciation for art, craft, and design
  • Ideally some experience in retail, galleries or customer-facing roles
  • A genuine interest in social media and creative content
  • Highly organised, independent and good at managing your time
  • An eye for presentation and detail
  • Friendly, reliable, and willing to muck in across all gallery tasks
  • Flexible availability including alternate Saturdays

How to apply

Only applications received by email, including both a CV and a short cover letter, will be considered.

Please send:

Applications submitted without both a CV and cover letter or not sent via email, cannot be reviewed.
