Join our small team

Job title: Gallery Assistant
Location: Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham
Working pattern: Part-time job share (2–3 days per week, 10.30am–5.30pm) on a rotating weekly schedule running Thursday to Wednesday, including alternate Saturdays
Closing date: Thursday 11 June 2026
Interviews: Monday 15 June 2026

Are you organised, friendly, and genuinely passionate about design and British craftsmanship? Do you enjoy meeting people, supporting independent makers, and contributing to the welcoming atmosphere of a creative space?

We’re looking for a Gallery Assistant to join our small team in a part-time job share role. This position is ideal for someone looking to supplement their existing work, such as an artist, maker, or small business owner, who can offer a bit of flexibility and enjoys working both independently and as part of a close-knit team.

You’ll be joining a beautiful creative environment in the heart of Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter, where we curate a carefully chosen selection of contemporary British jewellery, design-led furniture and handcrafted homeware.

About the role

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the day-to-day life of the gallery. From welcoming visitors and handling precious collections to liaising with our designer-makers and capturing simple social media content, you’ll be involved in a bit of everything.

Because our team is very small, you’ll often be working independently. Being reliable, organised and confident managing your own workload is essential. Clear record-keeping and open communication are key as you'll be sharing responsibilities closely with another colleague in a job-share arrangement.

Our schedule can vary slightly from week to week, so we’re looking for someone adaptable who can respond to the natural rhythm of the gallery while keeping things running professionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Opening and closing the gallery securely (including the careful handling and display of precious jewellery)
  • Welcoming visitors and offering warm, knowledgeable customer service (in person, via email and over the phone)
  • Creating and scheduling simple, engaging content for our social media channels and occasional newsletters
  • Keeping the gallery website up to date with accurate product information
  • Liaising with our designer-makers and keeping precise stock records
  • Managing inventory, including logging new arrivals and ensuring all pricing and details are accurate
  • Supporting day-to-day admin, keeping the space tidy and assisting with workshop or meeting room bookings

What we’re looking for

  • A genuine interest in and appreciation for art, craft, and contemporary design
  • Great communication skills with fluent written and spoken English
  • A degree in a relevant creative field such as fine art, design or art history is an advantage, though not essential
  • Ideally some experience in retail, gallery spaces or customer-facing roles
  • Comfortable with, or a keen interest in, social media and simple digital content creation
  • Highly organised, reliable, and happy working on your own initiative
  • An excellent eye for presentation and detail
  • A positive, flexible attitude and a willingness to help out with whatever the day brings
  • Availability to work alternate Saturdays
