Aston Hall
Aston Hall
Etched Sterling Silver mounted on an English Oak Plinth
This intricately etched silver sculpture pays tribute to Aston Hall, Birmingham’s iconic Grade I listed Jacobean mansion. Designed by John Thorpe and built between 1618 and 1635, the Hall is steeped in history—from hosting King Charles I during the Civil War to surviving a Parliamentary siege in 1643.
Drawing from an original pencil sketch, the artist has etched and polished the building’s elevations to capture the rich architectural detail and weathered grandeur of the Hall, with particular focus on its dramatic chimneyed skyline. The work is set against a hand-carved English oak mount, referencing the Jacobean interior.
Three polished silver spheres rest on the front lawn, a nod to both the Hall’s war-torn past and its proximity to Aston Villa Football Club. These spheres also serve a subtle function, anchoring the silver façade to its oak foundation.
A fusion of craftsmanship and storytelling, Aston Hall preserves a moment of Birmingham’s heritage in precious metal and wood.
