Artisan Alchemy Gallery

84 Caroline Street, Birmingham, B3 1UP

Deadline for applications is Friday 20 September 2024.

Interviews to be held on Monday 23 September 2024.

Salary dependant on experience.

Artisan Alchemy is a small independent gallery in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter exhibiting both contemporary jewellery and handcrafted fine furniture from designer makers across the UK.

The gallery owner and jewellery artist Michele White has a workshop in the basement below the gallery and curates all the work on display. She is currently seeking someone who will help her with the day-to-day running of the gallery including social media marketing, sales and general admin. It’s a part-time job share role that includes some Saturdays where you’ll largely be working on your own, so a degree of resourcefulness, strong sense of responsibility and flexibility is required.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Create a personal and friendly in-store experience
  • Opening and closing the gallery, setting up precious jewellery from the safe and replacing it overnight
  • Responding to general queries via email, telephone and face to face
  • Dealing with enquiries from designer makers, invoicing and managing inventory
  • Creating content to promote the gallery, its workspaces and meeting room across social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter
  • Designing and writing a monthly e-newsletter to send to subscribers
  • Ensuring the website is kept up to date, including photography
  • Working closely and collaboratively with the gallery owner and assistant

Skills, experience and competencies

  • A keen interest in art and design
  • Retail experience, preferably in a similar role
  • Excellent customer service experience
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Preferably a good understanding of Shopify and Mailchimp
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Well organised with good attention to detail
  • Flexible approach to working hours
  • Competence in social media marketing
  • An open-minded approach and willingness to learn new things.
  • A can-do, collaborative approach

Not all the above are essential but it is important to have the ability to learn.
