Are you highly organised, passionate about design, and committed to supporting British craftsmanship? Do you enjoy social media and e-commerce, as well as engaging with customers?

We’re looking for a Gallery Assistant to join our small team in a part-time job share role. The ideal person will be confident working both face-to-face with gallery visitors and behind the scenes creating engaging content for our social media platforms.

You’ll be joining a creative environment in the heart of Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter, where jewellery artist Michele White curates a carefully chosen selection of British jewellery and design-led furniture and homeware.

About the role

This is a varied, hands-on role combining traditional gallery responsibilities with a focus on growing our online visibility through social media and website SEO. Whether you're greeting visitors, handling jewellery, liaising with designer-makers or tackling day-to-day admin, you'll play a hands-on role in every part of gallery life.

As this is a small team, you'll often be working independently and will need to be resourceful, well-organised, and ready to take the initiative. You will share responsibilities for running the gallery with another colleague, therefore the ability to maintain clear records and communication is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Opening and closing the gallery, setting up precious jewellery from the safe and replacing it overnight
  • Welcoming visitors and providing good customer service (face-to-face, email, and phone)
  • Creating, scheduling, and posting engaging social media content
  • Maintaining and optimising the gallery’s e-commerce platform (Shopify), ensuring products are up to date and the website is user-friendly and visually consistent
  • Liaising with designer-makers and maintaining up-to-date product information
  • Supporting day-to-day admin tasks and keeping the gallery neat and tidy
  • Booking and promoting workshops and meeting room hire
  • Creating content for occasional blogs and newsletters
  • Optimising the gallery’s e-commerce platform on Shopify, ensuring all the products are up-to-date and the website is user-friendly and visually consistent
  • Managing jewellery and furniture inventory, including logging new pieces and keeping display labels accurate and up to date

What we’re looking for

  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • An interest in and appreciation for art, craft, and design
  • A strong interest in social media and creative content
  • Confident using social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter)
  • Preferably have experience in e-commerce and SEO & Shopify
  • Ideally have experience in retail, galleries, or customer-facing environments
  • Able to work independently and manage your time well
  • An eye for presentation and detail
  • Friendly, reliable, and willing to muck in across all gallery tasks
  • Flexible availability, including alternate Saturdays
  • A can-do collaborative approach
