Suzu bells

£395

Chester, England, 2018
Decommissioned gas cylinder, ebony plug, beech or oak base, ziricote or purple heart striker, lead
Approx. 36 × 12 × 6 cm

Inspired by the traditional Japanese Suzu bell, this contemporary piece offers a striking blend of symbolism and sustainability. Crafted from the top of decommissioned gas cylinders, each bell retains the distinctive black and white quartering that once indicated its use for oxygen, with natural rusting adding unique character.

Mounted on a solid beech or oak base, and finished with an ebony plug, the bell is paired with a weighted striker in either ziricote or purple heart wood. The result is a design that fuses industrial past with artisanal present, producing a deep, resonant tone that embodies harmony and clarity.
